CARFAMA IN THE 5TH ASEMPA SUPPORT RACE

Like every year, Carfama helped organise the Neuromuscular Disease Support Race with the aim of raising funds for Asempa. The race took place on Saturday afternoon on Poniente beach in Gijón with excellent participation in all categories, covering various distances -from 300 m up to 4 km- in which each runner made a €4 contribution.

The race aimed to raise funds and draw attention to chronic and progressive neuromuscular diseases which have a variable development and whose origin may be genetic, hereditary orcongenital. There are over one hundred varieties and they are classified as rare diseases. Its main symptom is loss of strength, limitation of social and emotional life, etc. The main neuromuscular diseases: muscular distrophies, myotonic dystrophies, congenital myopathies, spinal atrophies, polyneuropathies, myasthenias, metabolic myopathies, and other muscle diseases.

ASEMPA is a non-profit association that was founded twenty years ago in Gijón. Its objectives include the development of actions to achieve the highest quality of life for people affected by neuromuscular diseases, as well as their families and surrounding environments.
